Biography

Ruby believes law should be a practical tool for building, not a barrier to growth. As fractional in-house counsel for founders and growing businesses, she gives them ongoing support without the cost of a full-time hire. Ruby helps teams navigate contracts, risk, and compliance with clarity so they can move forward with confidence.

Ruby focuses on clear, practical legal systems that move at the same pace as the businesses she supports. She likes to get to the root of recurring issues and design contracts, playbooks, and processes that keep operations running smoothly. Clients describe her as a strong communicator with sound business judgment who is detail oriented, solution focused, and a trusted partner for growing teams.

Ruby’s fractional clients range from early stage startups to established companies in areas such as email and data security, online retail, and professional and financial services. She supports leadership teams with commercial contracts, product and feature launches, privacy and marketing compliance, vendor and customer negotiations, and day to day operational questions.

Earlier in her career, she articled with a crown corporation and completed a secondment at a national firm in downtown Vancouver working in corporate and commercial law, wills and estates, and employment law. During law school, Ruby worked in human rights law and litigation in The Hague, Netherlands for a busy defence team at the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (now the UN MICT) and at the Special Tribunal for Lebanon.

During law school, Ruby was an Editor for the Canadian Journal of Comparative and Contemporary Law, a Research Assistant, and served as a Representative on the Career Services Committee and on the Procedural Grades Appeal Panel. Ruby attended the University of British Columbia where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and obtained her Juris Doctor at Thompson Rivers University. She also studied International Commercial Arbitration Law at Stockholm University, where she completed a Masters of Law, and completed coursework in International Business Law at the Université Catholique de Lyon. She was called to the Bar of British Columbia in 2020. She is also the recipient of an entrance scholarship from the Canadian Bar Association of British Columbia.

Ruby now applies this broad based experience to help clients close deals efficiently, manage legal risk and stay out of court.

Ruby is passionate about volunteer work and community involvement. She served on the Board of Directors for the Richmond Multicultural Community Services, as a member of the Marketing and Communications Committee with the Canadian Bar Association, and as a volunteer lawyer for Access Pro Bono’s Summary Legal Advice Program.
